“Irish sports and data science company Orreco has secured a $2m (€1.9m) investment from the Silicon Valley-based True Ventures.
The investment is a significant boon for the Irish company, which was set up in 2010 by doctors Brian Moore and Andrew Hodgson.
True Ventures has previously invested in the highly successful activity tracker company Fitbit.
Orreco uses machine intelligence to help improve athletic performance and reduce incidences of illness and injury.
The company’s data solutions have already gained significant traction with professional sports stars in Formula 1, on the PGA tour and with players and teams in the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and English Premier League, as well as with Olympic sports competitors.
Golfers Henrik Stenson and Patrick Reed are the latest athletes to join the company’s client list. Orreco has also agreed a deal to supply data solutions to the Dallas Mavericks basketball team.
The company recently announced that former Irish rugby captain Keith Wood had joined in an executive capacity. Dr Andy Barr, former head of performance at Manchester City Football Club, has also joined the technical team.
Orreco will use the cash injection for key hires in the US and its Galway office.”
